Over the last year, Mr. Sat Parkash Sharma has overseen a wide range of interior and architectural design projects as president of the New York-based Leverich Design Studio. When he is not serving the community of Jackson Heights, New York, Mr. Sat Parkash Sharma frequently listens to the music of Manna Dey.
Born Prabodh Chandra Dey, Manna Dey was one of the most prominent playback singers in the Bengali and Hindi film industries. Experienced in the Hindustani classical musical style, he sang over 3,500 songs throughout his career and earned numerous accolades for his work. Here are a few of Manna Dey’s most popular songs:
“Tu Pyar Ka Sagar Hain”
Dey provided the singing voice for this piece from the classic Bollywood film Seema. Full of emotion and spirit, this piece appears in a scene between an orphanage manager and one of his employees.
“Ek Chatur Naar Karke Singar”
In partnership with singer Kishore Kumar, Dey performed the widely recognized “Ek Chatur Naar Karke Singar” for a scene in Padosan. Partly improvised, this piece became popular for its comedic, playful tone.
“Yeh Raat Bheegi Bheegi”
Featured in the 1956 film Chori Chori, “Yeh Raat Bheegi Bheegi” is a famous duet from Dey and Lata Mangeshkar. Unlike the film’s other fast-paced songs, this piece was slower and more melodic.
